The film stars Vijay and Pooja Hegde, with Selvaraghavan, Yogi Babu, Shine Tom Chacko, Redin Kingsley, VTV Ganesh, Aparna Das, Lilliput Faruqui, Ankur Ajit Vikal and Sathish Krishnan in supporting roles. It revolves around a man’s quest to save a bunch of shoppers held hostage in a shopping mall by terrorists.
Vijay’s 65th film as lead actor was initially to be written and directed by AR Murugadoss; however, due to differences with Sun Pictures, he was ousted from the project and his script abandoned. Nelson was later hired, and wrote a new script.

She made her Kollywood debut in 2012 with the Tamil superhero flick Mugamoodi, helmed by director Mysskin. Beast marks the comeback of Pooja Hegde to Tamil cinema after nine years.
